Celebrating Thanksgiving - Saturday, November 01, 2014
“Bless us and all these gifts from your bounty.”
In 1863, President Lincoln designated the last Thursday of November nationally “as a day of Thanksgiving and praise to our beneficent Father.” In 1939, President Franklin D. Roosevelt moved it one week earlier to help businesses by lengthening the Christmas shopping period. Finally in 1941, Congress legislated that Thanksgiving would be observed on the fourth Thursday of November and would be a federal holiday. As we celebrate this great American custom this year, we must not forget God. We should pause this Thanksgiving Day and take time to Pray, Reflect, and Give Thanks. Each Catholic should make a real effort to attend Mass and come to the banquet of Our Lord to lift up our hearts in thanksgiving and to receive Him in the Holy Eucharist. Yes, we give thanks for the gifts of family, Church, and sacraments. We give thanks for the loved ones who are entrusted to our care and those who care for us. We give thanks for our country which has provided such great opportunities, security, and peace. In all, we give thanks and rejoice in the Lord who has blessed each of us with so much and in so many ways.

Archdiocese of Dubuque History Book - Wednesday, December 12, 2012
Looking for a special, unique Christmas gift this year? Why not give them a copy of the 175th Anniversary coffee table book. This has updated history of the Archdiocese of Dubuque. It is available for $25.
In the preface to the book, Archbishop Jerome Hanus, O.S.B. states, "Today's Archdiocese is a living monument to the people who began coming to Iowa in the 1830's, whose numbers swelled, especially in the second half of the nineteenth century and who have given us the stable religious community familiar to all throughout the twentieth century. Knowledge of this history, and of the trials and successes, should give us confidence in the present and hope for the future."
This hard cover book published by Editions du Signe of France with 332 pages on glossy paper and full color throughout, would make a wonderful gift. In addition to recapping and updating the archdiocesan history, a large portion of the book is devoted to the parishes of the archdiocese where Catholics live their faith. There is also a condensed history in comic book style.
To purchase a hard cover book for $25 or the comic book for $5, please call the cluster office at (319) 228-8131 or email us at email@example.com. If you would like this shipped to you, please add $15 per book to the cost.
Hawk-i Insurance for Kids - Tuesday, August 21, 2012
If you or someone you know has children with no health and dental coverage, encourage them to consider enrolling in hawk-i or Medicaid. There two programs are offered by the State of Iowa.
There are as many as 27,000 children in Iowa without health and dental coverage. There are many families who are eligible for these programs but they are either unaware of the programs or assume they earn too much money to qualify. However, a family of three earning $54,000 or more may be eligible. Many families are cutting back expenses in these challenging economic times. Health and dental coverage for children is too important. No family will pay more than $40 per month for coverage in hawk-i.
Signing your children up for health and dental coverage in Iowa for as low as $20 to $40 per month and some families pay nothing at all! Our goal is to help the children get the health and dental coverage they need. For complete eligibility requirements, application, and answers to your questions, visit www.hawk-i.org or call 1-800-257-8563.
Scam Scram - Monday, July 09, 2012
It seems that there is a new scam invented every day. Keep a few helpful tips in mind, and you can tell those who might attempt a scam to just scram!
1) Be aware that you can be at risk from strangers, and from those close to you. Keep an open line of communication with a number of relatives.
2) Don't isolate yourself. Keep connected to family and friends, and find resources to stay active.
3) Tell solicitors or anyone who calls that you only respond to something in writing. Never give a credit card or bank account number over the phone to someone who calls you.
4) Sign up for the "Do Not Call" list, and check your credit report at www.AnnualCreditReport.com each year for free.
5) Use direct deposit for annuity or pension checks or any other regular income.
