God gives you what you can handle
“No trial has come to you but what is human. God is faithful and will not let you be tried beyond your strength; but with the trial he will also provide a way out, so that you may be able to bear it” (1 Corinthians 10:13).
Make Sunday the Lord’s Day
“Our spiritual life,” said the Holy Father, “essentially depends on the Eucharist. Without it, faith and hope are extinguished, charity becomes cold. Thus, dear friends, I exhort you to attend ever more to the quality of Eucharistic celebrations, especially on Sundays, so that Sunday will truly be the Lord’s Day and will confer fullness of meaning on everyday events and activities.

Bridgehaven - Tuesday, August 26, 2014
So many women within the Body of Christ are suffering from unresolved grief and guilt over a past abortion, even those who say they’ve asked God to forgive them. The shame can be overwhelming and lead them into obsessive behaviors (including church work) to try to avoid dealing with the emotional pain or to atone for that regretful decision. We understand. We so long to see their wounded hearts healed, to see the captives set free. To help with this healing process, Bridgehaven offers post-abortion support/recovery classes (PAS). Our classes are facilitated by women who have gone through their own healing and offer a supportive atmosphere that gives women a safe place to work through issues of anger, grief, and forgiveness. Our next PAS class starts Sept. 16, 1-3 p.m., meeting consecutive Tuesdays through Nov. 11. To register or inquire, please contact Marilyn at 364-8967 or e-mail: Marilyn@bridgehavencr.org. |Great Iowa Treasure Hunt - Wednesday, February 20, 2013|
The Great Iowa Treasure Hunt database contains more than one million accounts for individuals all over the state that have lost track of some money or a treasure. "In addition to money, we have safe deposit box contents, which include an assortment of sentimental and heirloom items waiting to be reclaimed," said Fitzgerald.
Treasurer Fitzgerald encourages all Iowans to check the website https://www.greatiowatreasurehunt.com/ for a forgotten treasure. "Check regularly, check often and check for your friends and family," Fitzgerald advises. New property is uploaded every year, so even if you have claimed property in the past, there is a chance your name could reappear. "We want to return people's money," he stated. "That's our number one priority."
The Great Iowa Treasure Hunt program has returned over $156 million to more than 385,000 individuals since Fitzgerald started it in 1983. Companies and financial institutions in Iowa and from across the nation report millions of dollars in unclaimed property to the State Treasurer each year. Common examples of unclaimed property include money in forgotten savings/checking accounts, uncashed insurance benefit and payroll checks, IRA funds, lost stock and dividends, abandoned safe deposit box contents, gift cards, and utility refunds or deposits.
"Finding and receiving unclaimed property is an easy process," explained Fitzgerald. "We are dedicated to helping Iowans reunite with their missing money and property." Visit greatiowatreasurehunt.com to see if you have a treasure waiting for you.
Archdiocese of Dubuque History Book - Wednesday, December 12, 2012
Looking for a special, unique Christmas gift this year? Why not give them a copy of the 175th Anniversary coffee table book. This has updated history of the Archdiocese of Dubuque. It is available for $25.
In the preface to the book, Archbishop Jerome Hanus, O.S.B. states, "Today's Archdiocese is a living monument to the people who began coming to Iowa in the 1830's, whose numbers swelled, especially in the second half of the nineteenth century and who have given us the stable religious community familiar to all throughout the twentieth century. Knowledge of this history, and of the trials and successes, should give us confidence in the present and hope for the future."
This hard cover book published by Editions du Signe of France with 332 pages on glossy paper and full color throughout, would make a wonderful gift. In addition to recapping and updating the archdiocesan history, a large portion of the book is devoted to the parishes of the archdiocese where Catholics live their faith. There is also a condensed history in comic book style.
To purchase a hard cover book for $25 or the comic book for $5, please call the cluster office at (319) 228-8131 or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org. If you would like this shipped to you, please add $15 per book to the cost.
Hawk-i Insurance for Kids - Tuesday, August 21, 2012
If you or someone you know has children with no health and dental coverage, encourage them to consider enrolling in hawk-i or Medicaid. There two programs are offered by the State of Iowa.
There are as many as 27,000 children in Iowa without health and dental coverage. There are many families who are eligible for these programs but they are either unaware of the programs or assume they earn too much money to qualify. However, a family of three earning $54,000 or more may be eligible. Many families are cutting back expenses in these challenging economic times. Health and dental coverage for children is too important. No family will pay more than $40 per month for coverage in hawk-i.
Signing your children up for health and dental coverage in Iowa for as low as $20 to $40 per month and some families pay nothing at all! Our goal is to help the children get the health and dental coverage they need. For complete eligibility requirements, application, and answers to your questions, visit www.hawk-i.org or call 1-800-257-8563.

Scam Scram - Monday, July 09, 2012
It seems that there is a new scam invented every day. Keep a few helpful tips in mind, and you can tell those who might attempt a scam to just scram!
1) Be aware that you can be at risk from strangers, and from those close to you. Keep an open line of communication with a number of relatives.
2) Don't isolate yourself. Keep connected to family and friends, and find resources to stay active.
3) Tell solicitors or anyone who calls that you only respond to something in writing. Never give a credit card or bank account number over the phone to someone who calls you.
4) Sign up for the "Do Not Call" list, and check your credit report at www.AnnualCreditReport.com each year for free.
5) Use direct deposit for annuity or pension checks or any other regular income.
